A Message from our Head of School

A message from SSA Head of School, Steven Erdelyi

My philosophy as an educator is always to go above and beyond, whether in reference to academics, individual support, or health and safety. When the pandemic first hit, many schools reduced their spending due to the financial times. At Solomon Schechter Academy, we focused our attention on putting every measure in place to protect our students, staff, and their families.

Today, our focus is to raise the level of excellence through enrichment, while assisting those students who may have fallen behind. As we move beyond the pandemic, our thoughts are also on the mental health and wellness of your children, which is top of mind.

When a teacher or member of the administration comes to me with an idea of a cutting-edge program or initiative to help our students, my goal is to say, “yes”! Tuition and government subsidies cover basic education, but the donations to our Annual Campaign pay for the education we want our students to have, and allow me to say “yes” more often to the projects that help our students.

We have recently embarked on an ambitious campaign to improve the facilities at SSA, including new playgrounds at both campuses, LED lighting, and a pilot project of new, active learning classrooms featuring flexible seating. These investments will help our students grow mentally, physically, and academically.

The 2021-2022 Annual Giving Campaign will focus on continuing to upgrade the facilities by converting more classrooms to flexible seating and a major renovation of the Main Campus gym. Our SSA students will benefit from a brighter, more modern, multi-purpose environment in which they will enjoy physical activities and learn good sportsmanship, while building team spirit.

With your support, we can continue to achieve our goals and be there for your children and grandchildren. I thank you in advance for your gifts to the SSA Children’s Foundation, which allow us to lead the way for the next generation.
