Solomon Schechter Academy students and staff are proud to participate in Orange Shirt Day on September 30, to raise awareness about the history and legacies of the residential school system in Canada as a part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Lots of wonderful learning experiences took place in English, French, Jewish Studies and even in gym class! Students in the Amiel Early Childhood Centre read stories about aboriginal survivors, talked about kindness, and made artwork using feathers. Students in the Main Campus read the story of Phyllis Webstad’s experience in a residential school, discussed ways we can show others that they matter, considered how they can make an impact towards reconciliation, and learned the meaning behind the message that Every Child Matters.
